I had the privilege of being able to camp out for a couple nights at Inks Lake State Park in the Hill Country outside of Austin, Texas. Luckily we were able to go in the middle of the week which meant we had the place almost to ourselves. It was serenely beautiful with trails, streams, waterfalls, bluebonnets, cliffs, hills, fantastic sunsets and of course the lake. Primitive campsites start at $11 and they also have cabins that start at $55. They have everything to make the best of the land and water, allowing you to borrow fishing gear and rent canoes/kayaks.
The second night a storm literally rolled in… I could feel the thunder shaking the ground below my tent and then it would bounce and roll off the surrounding hills. Even though it was a wet mess trying to pack up the next morning I really enjoyed it.
